Bird's Nest

The absolute best viewpoint if you're looking for seclusion and relaxation. This hidden gem is located right on the Angeles Crest Highway. Although it's a little out of the way and inconvenient, the amazing view and atmosphere of the point makes it completely worth it. Getting to Bird's Nest is relatively easy and simple. All you have to do is drive straight up the Angeles Crest Highway, for around 3-4 miles, until you see an open shoulder on the left side of the road leading to a dirt path called Hoyt Mtn. Rd. (it's on google maps). Once there, you just walk up the trail for around 5 minutes and you'll come across a huge water tank with a conveniently placed rail guard acting like a ladder. The view is amazing. Atop Bird's Nest, a huge stretch of the Angeles Crest Highway is visible. Since Bird's Nest facing east, if you get there early enough you can catch the beautiful LA sunrise. I HEAVILY URGE YOU TO LOOK UP THE DIRECTIONS BEFORE ENTERING THE HIGH...

Elephant Hill

The picture itself is not close to enough to illustrate the true beauty of this view. The view is a 360 degrees view stretching from Downtown Los Angeles to the Sierra Madre Mountains. The name 'Elephant Hill' comes from the shape created by the trails leading to the summit. From an aerial view, the trails depict an elephant. Not only is this a great viewpoint, but it's a great hiking trail as well! We definitely recommend visiting Elephant Hill over the weekend with your friends or even your dog (if you have one) and go for a nice stroll. The best part about this hike is the accessibility. Differing from our other viewpoints it is closer to Los Angeles than the Pasadena area, offering our readers in the highland park area to enjoy a great viewpoint as well! Also, parking is easy; right in front of the trail head you can find a plethora of parking spots and the neighbors are extremely friendly and festive. Last time we visited Elephant Hill we heard Mexican music comi...

Art Center College of Design

Unless you're an upper-middle-class citizen of the Pasadena area, you probably have never heard of the local art school. However, assuming that people interested in this blog drive cars, it's safe to assume that most people reading this is in fact on the more affluent side of the socio-economic spectrum, thus you are familiar with the Art Center College of Design. Although you may be familiar with the Art Center College of design, most people are not aware that this campus offers a stunning view. Getting here is quite a hassle, however if you drive by the Rose Bowl, and drive up Lida Street, it's hard to miss due to the luminescent "Art Center College of Design" sign. Once on campus, there's a huge parking lot. Park, get out of the car, and walk over towards the large lawn deep inside of the campus. Once you're on the lawn, look out south, and what you'll see will surprise you. This viewpoint looks over all of Pasadena including old town and the Ro...

Monterey Hills Viewpoint

This view is located in the hills of South Pasadena. It's relatively easy to access with a location only minutes from the 110 freeway. From the view, the city of Alhambra is clearly seen. The view is different from many of our other views in a way that the location  seamlessly blends with the community. The scene from this location is vast and is only stopped due to hills in the far distance. The view is a bit difficult to appreciate for extensive periods of time since there is no distinct place to relax and take it all in. The view is seen from the street and beyond that there is a steep hill. The view consists of mostly green trees and a few buildings in the distance. It's a good view due to it's easy to access location. For the elevation, the depth of the view is surprising. 1909 Illinois Dr, South Pasadena, CA 91030

Ernest E. Debs Regional Park

The View From Debs Park This viewpoint was actually introduced to me through cross country. I have run through this national park many times for our weekly uphill training, but never had the chance to stop by and enjoy the view. The Pond However, this Monday, my partner and I decided to make a quick visit to Ernest E. Debs Regional Park   to see if it's worthy of our blog. We drove down to Los Angeles,  drove up a steep inclining driveway and parked in the parking lot. Then we took a 5-minute uphill hike until we reached the top. To be completely honest, the uphill walk was actually a bit tiring, but once we reached our destination we were both speechless. The view was amazing! Once at the top, the viewpoint overlooks a good amount of Los Angeles and you can even see the silhouette of Downtown Los Angeles's skyscrapers. If you look towards the other direction, South Pasadena and Pasadena are clearly visible. This viewpoint has a variety of views and it's awesom...

Ice Cream Mountain

If you've ever been to Outdoor Science School in Malibu, you'll definitely recognize this viewpoint. This past week I served as a cabin leader for my local Elementary school's visit to Outdoor Science School. Here I stumbled across this attractive view on one of my hikes in the Coastal Sage Scrub ecosystem. To be honest, getting here is quite a hassle. First you have to drive all the way to Malibu, by taking the 10 and then The Pacific Coast Highway also known as PCH. Once there, you'll come across a private Jewish Camp. The hike is in the Jewish Camp, but there is an alternative way around the mountain. The hike is actually exceptionally cool. There are two huge Menorahs for the Jewish Camp, and at the top of the trail there's an old broken down tractor. This viewpoint looks over the Pacific ocean and the PCH. If you're driving through Malibu, I definitely recommend stopping by at Ice Cream Mountain for a quick hike or even a scenic picnic. 11495 Pacifi...

Gravity View

Gravity view is one of the best views in the city of Altadena. This is our first entry in Altadena and a great way to start it. Gravity view is a view point located in Northern Altadena. This spot is relatively easy to get to and you will never have to leave your car. If you're familiar with Gravity Hill, this spot is just next to it. To get here you'll just need to take Lake St. all the way to the top and go East on Dolores Dr. to a dried up lake. Here continue on the street and take a left on Zane Grey Ter. Here just take that street until you reach the view. At the top of the street there's a little stretch of dirt to park and stand on to enjoy the view. Remember to be careful because it's an extremely steep hill and the dirt platform is only - roughly - eight-feet long. This viewpoint looks over all of Pasadena and even goes to show Downtown in the far distance. This place is perfect for capturing a perfect sunset. Zane Grey Terrace, Altadena, CA 91001, USA
